Medina Valley ISD serves communities across nearly 300 square miles west of San Antonio and has become one of the fastest-growing school districts in Texas. Even though it is growing and new facilities are opening up, the district maintains a 16:1 classroom size which ensures personalized attention for students compared to larger districts.

For the most recent 2025–26 school year, the Texas Education Agency awarded Medina Valley ISD an overall B rating with a score of 82 out of 100. The district also received B ratings across Student Achievement, School Progress and Closing the Gaps, demonstrating balanced performance across multiple measures of student success.
Schools Serving Viana Families
Viana is positioned near several Medina Valley ISD campuses, helping make the daily school routine convenient for families throughout different stages of life.
Potranco Elementary School serves students from kindergarten through fifth grade and is located less than a mile from Viana. The campus focuses on building a strong foundation through early literacy, academics, STEM exposure and student engagement. For 2026, Potranco Elementary earned an overall B rating and climbing the ranks in it’s regional academic excellence.
As students move into their middle school years, Loma Alta Middle School serves grades six through eight. MVISD has reported annual enrollment growth of approximately 10% to 15% in recent years and has been identified by the district as the fifth-fastest-growing school district in Texas. In response, the community overwhelmingly approved a combined $666 million in bonds in 2023 and 2024 to support new campuses, land acquisition, safety improvements and expanded facilities.
Those investments include the opening of Creek View High School, the district’s second high school, as well as plans for Middle School and Elementary Schools which will be incorporated in the community. The district is also proactively investing in additional Career and Technical Education, agricultural and JROTC facilities and other improvements designed to support a growing student population.
For Viana families, that continued investment means becoming part of a school district actively building infrastructure for both today’s students and the families expected to call the area home in the years ahead.
